EduBreak!
Action Camp
EduBreak builds on the success and reputation of our summer Action Camp programme. It runs throughout the year providing a variety of engaging learning opportunities for key target groups whilst broadening their horizons through travel.
Families will enjoy three full days of fun packed family activities --- Ziggies Style.
Ziggies camp is a fun, free holiday experience located in Brean Sands, a breath taking West Country seaside location for holidays like they used to be with a 7 mile award winning beach of golden sand literally on your doorstep stretching from Brean Down to Burnham on Sea. With some of the most stunning beaches and glorious scenery no wonder they call it the “Jewel of the South West”.
Activities over the three days are cleverly based around popular short stories. Attendees will take part in fun activities inspired by the chosen story; examples may be as varied as making masks featuring the characters in the story, holding a teddy bears’ picnic, or a special game in which the adults and children take part.
A Pontins Entertainment Pass covers loads of FREE activities which will keep kids of all ages happy, from a thrilling outdoor adventure playground to a fantastic indoor pool. By nightfall you can enjoy evenings in the Fun Factory.
What Ziggies Family Camp sets out achieve
Ziggies Family Camps help children and their families make Positive choices while improving parents relationships with their children and their schools.
Parents discover how to help their children learn through play, with a great emphasis on reading, encouraging play through storytelling.
We hope that the long term effects of our Ziggies Family Camps will be that communities are better places to raise children, broadening their horizons and raise their aspirations .
“There is great excitement each Thursday afternoon when a different story is told through play, activities and dramatic reading! All the children and adults who completed an evaluation form were extremely positive about the experience.”
Learning Together Report - People and Work Unit June 2011
Delivered by Young Wales our core “Action Camp” is a three day residential event covering a number of key Welsh Government themes. Now in its ninth year it is primarily, though not exclusively aimed at young people aged eleven to eighteen .
The big change for this year is NO Tents ...
Gorwelion is our new home, overlooking the sea near Porthcawl. We have made this decision based on toe poor weather we have experienced over the past three summers. This year we will be sleeping in luxury Bunkhouses situated within the extensive grounds that overlook the sea front.
Our new site is a great place for fun and adventure with lots of opportunities and attractions all within walking distance. We are close to the beach and the leisure facilities of Treco Bay allowing us to give attendees a traditional holiday experience whilst we introduce some of the major issues facing our planet and population. Our aim, as always is to give our attendees the best chance of becoming part of the solution and not part of the problem.
“Action Camp is an exciting and innovative project. In a very short time it has produced high quality engaging work with young people of all ages, interests and ability. There is no better way of regenerating communities than investing in young people, which is what Action Camp is all about."
Alun Taylor Regeneration Manager, Wales
Accommodation
The accommodation is split into male and female rooms with at least one adult supervisor on duty 24 hours
Catering
Full commercial kitchen facilities are available which attendees will be using throughout their stay. Action Camp prepares food for large numbers
of young people. All staff handling food have the appropriate food hygiene qualifications and all food is purchased from recognised suppliers.
Healthy Living
The camps encourage a healthy lifestyle with the attendees introduced to a wide variety of healthy foods and plenty of physical activity. The concepts of “Five A Day” and “Five x Sixty” are promoted throughout the camp. Written exercises back up practical work and promote discussion on why in many communities health aspiration is extremely low. Action Camp hope that lessons taught will play a roll in improving overall community health.
